Hitting the Target (Luke 5:1-11)
Experiencing a truly deep relationship with God is something most people find difficult if not impossible. However, it does not have to be a complicated venture. Take for example Peter’s experience in
Luke 5:1-11.
Peter began his day by the lake cleaning nets. He was not looking for anything spiritual; he was just part of the community by the shore. Enter Jesus; he was also at the shore that day teaching. The crowd started to gather and Jesus spied Peter’s boat. He stepped into Peter’s life (the boat) and asked Peter to push off from the shore. Peter went from being just part of the community to being part of the crowd just listening to what Jesus had to say. Jesus finished his lesson and turned to Peter and asked him to push out into the deep for a catch. As Peter followed the request he came to the understanding of just who Jesus was, he went from being just part of a crowd to making a personal connection. As Peter wrestled with his new found discovery, Jesus reassured Peter that he had the skills needed to serve in the kingdom, and be a part of something bigger than him, but to put those skills to use Peter would have to commit his life to doing so.
Everybody is somewhere in this story, and wherever you are that’s OK because we are all about helping people seeking a deeper relationship, do so, one step at a time, and at a pace that is comfortable for them.
